and glanced at my companions I was pretty sure what I would find there. Just like I had wondered before my arrival. Prostitutes."What is the difference between blue and green restaurants?" Nancy asked us after leaving the building. "I know we don't need what they are offering in the red-light district."
"Let's find out," Lin replied, urging us toward the first obvious eatery on the left. It had blue lights and music thumping like African drums. The ceiling was covered with bottles and glasses that were constantly being retrieved by bikini clad local females as they filled drink orders.
"This is a bar," I told them. "Are we ready for that or do we want a quieter place to get something to eat?"
"Can't we get farther from the crowds?" Nancy asked. "It looks like the green lit buildings are more subdued. They must be family style restaurants."
She just might be right. None of the structures were sealed off in any way. You could step over roots or short walls to walk right in from any angle. Thinking of the busy bar, I wondered how we would get the bartenders' attention to order a drink. A quieter, calmer place for our first meal did sound like a better idea.
None of us were terribly hungry, so it wasn't all that surprising that we walked for nearly an hour before a place struck our fancy. It was built on top of a lake, sort of. Five gigantic trees grew from the banks of the calm water at an angle toward the center of the lake. There they were connected with dozens of levels made from a thin black metal. Vines provided a safety barrier to keep anyone from falling into the water on all sides. That was the case for several levels.
That is when it struck me. This was the first structure that was designed to accommodate humans above the ground level. Angle rope ladders simulated stairways to go upwards and experience what the next floor had to offer. No wonder this place was at the top of the list on the travel guide. It was simply named Humans Come Here.
Level one had white lighting by way of glowing crystals. The next two were green with tables and chairs visible, most of which had humans around them. The fourth and fifth floors used the blue lighting that we already deduced represented a bar or dance club scene. I could hear the drums from the ground out in front of the building. Above it was one floor with a subtle red illumination. Several levels higher were hued with yellow and orange, slowly transitioning from one to the other with each level. Based on the limited view of those I couldn't clearly decide what they were. Maybe hotel rooms?
As we approached the business two more cute little Peggies welcomed us with poor pronunciation of our language and lots of body contact. One managed to tug on my hand to place it on her back. She then stroked my knee happily as they guided us inside. To my surprise her short fur was incredibly soft. Unless I brushed against the grain it almost felt like skin.
The two big eyed girls tried to persuade us not to go to the front desk. They wanted us to join them for a party on level six. Eagerness in their eyes told me what I would find up there.
"I think we are going to get something to eat down here first," I told the alluring Peggy prostitutes. I was getting a strong Thailand bar vibe the way they were swarming over the new arrivals. They weren't ready to take no for an answer either. When my monkey girl placed my hand on the crotch of her bikini, I had to get more insistent. The warmth that I found between her legs was inviting in an alien fetish kind of way. But we just got here! Give me some time to eat and get drunk before I wake up in bed with another species.
We opted for seating on the third level to have a nice view of the lake and part of the city while we dined. Our table was right on the edge, so nothing blocked our view of what was still beyond where we had already ventured.
A cute little Peggy girl approached. Damn they were all kind of cute for their kind. She took our order patiently as we figured out what we might actually enjoy eating. Portia declined to order since she could not process the menu items or have any need of it. The three of us that could digest food ordered different types of fish with vegetables which seemed to dominate the main section of the menu.
Our waitress then pointed to a Pegillas man waist deep in a section of the lake nearby. He was catching fish with a spear. I appreciated her pointing out the spectacle for us to enjoy though I didn’t understand why. It wasn't until she was more vocal while pointing back at the menu on the table that I finally understood. That man was going to catch our meal for us as we waited.
Lin inquired about how long it would take before we ate. This was a bit more than just picking a lobster out of the tank. When the girl said it would be over an hour, we decided that was fine. The view was amazing, and we were in the mood for relaxing. It felt like vacation.
I ordered a bottle of the local liquor specialty and three glasses. The waitress stared at Portia for a while before withdrawing. She either deduced that our silent non-engaging companion was an android or thought her plainly antisocial. I did not have near enough experience with Peggy facial expressions to make a conclusion.
We watched the fisherman intently for a few minutes. Through the clear water we could see
