She's Mine : Black Mountain Academy
him out of the popular category with the guys.Molly refused to look at him, and Keira was too tired and conflicted with her own shit that she wasn’t about to touch on that subject right now.
“Yeah, okay,” Keira said, feeling the tension growing between them. Maybe they needed to talk this out alone. “I’ll meet up with you guys in English Comp.”
“I’ll go with you,” Molly said tightly.
“Can we talk, Molly? Please?” There was a pleading tone to Ian’s voice.
And the look in Molly’s face told Keira now was the time to go.
She made her way inside, and a look over her shoulder showed Molly waving her hands furiously between her and Ian. Facing forward, she kept her head down and walked faster, aware of the students staring at her and whispering to each other.
She entered the school, the sound of lockers being slammed shut and voices raised in conversation surrounding her. It was white, red, and black as far as the eye could see, the uniforms they were required to wear at BMA making them all look like lemmings on any given day.
She started rummaging through her bag for a second then glanced up and felt her step falter when she noticed Reese right away. He closed his locker and turned, facing her, their eyes locking.
It was this weird moment where everything felt thick, where time seemed to stand still. And then Nate was in front of Reese, cutting off their eye contact and the spell Keira felt wash over her.
The bathroom. That’s where Keira found herself after she put her books she wouldn’t need right away in her locker. It was a reprieve before first period, when no doubt the hushed murmurs would commence before someone outright said whatever was floating around about her.
The bathroom was thankfully empty when she entered, and she set her bag down and rested her hands on the edge of the sink. She stared at herself in the mirror and sighed, because… well, she didn’t know why.
That’s a lie.
She was plain. In every sense of the word. And she wouldn’t even be on the radar for a guy like Reese.
But I had been. He’d come to my defense.
She closed her eyes and shook her head. He was a good guy; that was all. Nothing like the snobs who went to school here who would have seen a fight or assault and grabbed a beer to watch the show.
Reese would have helped anyone if they were in trouble. But these feelings she had for him weren’t sane. They didn’t feel normal, like a passing crush. He consumed her thoughts, made her body feel things it never had before. And he’d never even touched her, yet she lit up when he was around.
She opened her eyes and bent to grab her bag, when the bathroom door opened and a few girls walked in. Their laughter echoed in the small enclosure, but it was the sound of Lindy’s voice that had Keira’s spine straightening.
“He keeps trying to get me in bed, but I’m not sure why it’s not getting through his head that he’s not up to my standards.”
“He’s hot though,” his friend said, and Lindy scoffed.
“Compared to who? And his parents aren’t even that loaded. I’d be scraping the bottom of the barrel giving him the time of day.” Her friends started laughing, but their voices died when they saw Keira.
Lindy’s eyes narrowed, and she gave her a smile. She said nothing as her smile grew and she made her way toward one of the sinks. Lindy turned the water on and started washing her hands as she stared at Keira through the reflection in the mirror.
“Keira, right?”
This wouldn’t end well; Keira already knew. Not only had it clearly pissed Lindy off that Reese hadn’t paid her attention at the party, but he’d been looking at Keira.
“Yeah” was all Keira said. She was going to leave, but Lindy’s friends blocked the door, their resting bitch faces on point.
“Didn’t Reese Trenton kick some guy’s ass for you at Alistor’s party?” Lindy said it so nonchalantly.
“It’s a long story.” And one Keira wasn’t going to get into.
The other girls started whispering to each other then giggled.
Lindy turned and dried her hands off as she looked Keira up and down. “I knew your brother, you know. Hung out with him at a couple parties.” Lindy smirked again.
The way she said hung made Keira think what that really meant was Lindy had gone all slut-mode where Alex was concerned. Keira didn’t know if that was supposed to bother her, but it didn’t. What Alex may or may not have done wasn’t Keira’s business. Although, if he had slept with Lindy, his standards had really dropped. Or he’d been shitfaced.
“I’ll tell him you said hi,” Keira said, and the expression on Lindy’s face told Keira that got under the girl’s skin.
Good.
“So, you and Reese….” Lindy’s voice trailed off as she leaned a shoulder against the wall and crossed her arms.
Keira stared at her for a heartbeat. Dammit, she made that school uniform look good. The short-as-hell skirt that showed off her long, perfect legs, the blouse with the cleavage popping, and the BMA cardigan… Lindy looked like a backup dancer in a Britney Spears music video.
“You guys fucking?” Lindy arched a perfect eyebrow.
Keira felt her face heat. “Um. No.”
“No?” Lindy’s voice was sarcastic. “Guys don’t just kick someone's ass out of the kindness of their heart. And rumor around school is you’re putting out for Reese big time.” Lindy smiled wider. “So he kicked that guy’s ass, because you’re either related to him, or you’re fucking him. And I know he’s not your long-lost brother, so—”
“I’m not fucking anyone,” Keira cut her off, her pulse racing.
Lindy’s face was serious right before she burst out laughing. That had her friends doing the same. All that accomplished was Keira’s face getting hotter. Lindy gave Keira a once-over again.
“Yeah, that seems about right.”
Keira didn’t have to assume what Lindy meant by that, because
