Defending Hannah
the hands let her go and turned her around. She waited until they brought her closer to them before she lashed out. The man must have been prepared for her trick though because he easily deflected her blows and grabbed her face. Was he going to kiss her? She'd bite his tongue in half first. He spoke to her again but this time a word penetrated her mind. Ben.Her Ben? Could it be? Dare she hope? Slowly her vision cleared and she was not in the underground tunnels but on a plane if the sound of engines roaring was any indication. He sat in front of her stroking her face and talking to her.
"Ben?" she asked. Afraid it was a dream. The rescue had never happened and she would wake up any moment on her cot. She reached out and touched his cheek and felt the heat of his skin. Dreams weren't warm. He was real. The rescue did happen.
Drained of energy, Hannah collapsed against Ben’s chest. She felt safe in his arms and she didn’t know why. Before she could think too much on it Ben told her they had to get back in their seat for landing.
Chapter Five
Feeling embarrassed Hannah kept her head down as she scrambled out of Ben's lap and back into her seat. She could feel everyone’s eyes on her. Probably wondering about her outburst. Not that she would explain. She brought her knees up to her chest and watched Ben get up slower and make his way to the seat next to her. She tried to pretend he wasn't there and failing miserably. Ben commanded presence. At almost six and a half feet tall he was hard to overlook. He lost his black BDU jacket and only wore a black t-shirt that hugged his body to perfection and his ass fit tight in his pants. Not that she was looking. For all his strength and muscle he had been gentle with her, as if afraid to hurt her. It shouldn’t have surprised her but it did. Since her capture no one had cared if she had a bruise or two. Ben may not have cared for her as a woman growing up but he had always treated her with the utmost care.
"What will happen when we get there?" Hannah imagined chains and interrogation. Someone playing good cop and another playing bad cop.
"Nothing as drastic as I'm sure your thinking. We'll take you some place to relax while my team and I debrief then I'll come get you and you can tell us everything you know about Alejandro and anyone else you and he have come in contact with."
It sounded so simple but she knew it was anything but. Alejandro was ruthless and wouldn't take this attack lying down. He would find her and do far worse to her than he already had. Out of all the men who had bought her, Alejandro had been the worst. He got off on the pain he inflicted on others. Most punished her to keep her subjective. Alejandro beat women down just because he could.
"Hey," Ben said taking her hand. She looked down at their joined hands. His strong tanned hands. Hands that had killed. Hands that had saved. "Everything is going to be fine. I won't let anything happen to you."
She believed him. Hannah turned her hand over in his and intertwined their fingers. She looked up at him and smiled. "I'm going to hold you to that, Ben."
She didn’t let go of his hand until they landed and the cargo doors opened. An MP, military police, escorted her away from Ben to his car. She looked back at Ben and he gave her an encouraging smile and nod. Hannah was nervous. Last time she left him she had a breakdown. What would happen this time? Hoping for the best, Hannah got in the car and watched Ben as he and his team disappeared. She sat rigid in the car watching the MP out of the corner of her eye the whole time. She didn’t trust anyone but Ben. She reached for the knife Ben had given her but realized too late that Ben had taken it from her when she had the break down in the hospital. Shit.
The MP drove easily to the office and escorted her to a room with a steel table and a one-way mirror. Hannah stopped dead in her tracks. No way was she going in there. This wasn't what she agreed to. Ben never told her she'd be kept in a box. Hannah tried to back pedal and escape but the MP stood behind her and pushed her in and closed the door behind her.
"Let me out," Hannah yelled hysterically while banging on the steel door and jiggling the handle. Ben lied to her. He didn’t want her help. He wanted her captive. Hannah knew she shouldn’t have trusted him. He was a soldier and supposed to be helping people and now he wanted her out of the way. She knew to much about Alejandro and they wanted her out of the way. Luring her with false hope of taking her home and just needing answers from her. She had to find a way out. She looked around frantically for an exit. She had to get out. She had to escape.
Ben and his team turned in their weapons and hastened to Commander Brady’s office. Ben was in a hurry to get back to Hannah and check on her. She looked scared to be separated from him but he hardened his heart to her and gave her a nod of approval and watched her disappear. He couldn’t lose himself to this girl again. It would serve no purpose. She was just part of the mission. He needed to remind himself of that.
"Hey focus." Sunshine nudged him before they walked into the Commander's office.
Ben shoved him back before knocking on the door and waited for the Commander to announce enter. They filed in and stood at attention.
"At ease." The Commander ordered. He was in his late
